Over the course of my education and professional career, I have learned that technology is about much more than writing code. As a software engineer and an Applied Computing student, I have developed a better understanding of how technology, communication, information, and people all connect. Each course and project has given me another perspective on how technology can be designed and used to solve real-world problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the biggest areas I have learned about is Agile development<\/strong>. Before studying Agile more closely, I understood many of its practices from my professional experience, but learning the methodology helped me understand why those practices are effective. Concepts such as sprints, Kanban boards, retrospectives, and continuous improvement demonstrate the importance of breaking large problems into smaller, manageable pieces. I have also learned how Agile differs from traditional approaches such as Waterfall and why different projects may require different development strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I have also learned that communication is just as important as technical ability<\/strong>. Technical teams can build great solutions, but those solutions are much harder to achieve when people are not communicating effectively. Learning about the 7 Cs of communication, active listening, and different communication styles has made me more aware of how I communicate with coworkers, clients, and leadership. I have learned that being direct and technically correct is not always enough. How a message is delivered and how it is received can be just as important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another major area of learning has been information and its role in technology<\/strong>. Studying information systems has changed the way I think about data, search engines, networks, algorithms, privacy, and digital communication. I have learned that information is not simply something that computers store and process. The way information is organized, categorized, accessed, and presented can influence what people see and how they understand the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I have also learned more about SEO and web development<\/strong>. Understanding on-page and off-page SEO, search ranking factors, structured data, and ethical SEO practices has shown me that building a website is only part of creating a successful online experience. A website also needs to be accessible, useful, easy to navigate, and discoverable. Working with HTML, CSS, WordPress, and other web technologies has helped me connect the technical side of development with the experience of the people actually using the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Perhaps the most important lesson I have learned is the value of problem-solving<\/strong>. Whether I am working on software, analyzing information, improving a website, or communicating with a team, I enjoy figuring out how things work and finding ways to make them better. My education has helped me see problems from multiple perspectives rather than immediately jumping to a technical solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These experiences have also influenced my career goals. I want to continue growing as a software engineer, eventually move into a software architect role, and continue developing my skills in artificial intelligence. The more I learn, the more I realize that becoming a strong technologist requires continuous learning. Technology changes quickly, so I have to be willing to adapt, ask questions, communicate effectively, and keep improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ultimately, I have learned that technology is not just about computers. It is about people, information, communication, and solving problems<\/strong>.
